the slate museum in haut-martelange ↓
the slate museum deals with the history of slate: origin, extraction, processing, finished product.
at the end of the 18th century, the first underground pits were created in what is now haut-martelange. around 1900, about 600 workers were working there.
after the last slate mine in luxembourg was closed in 1986, the whole area around haut-martelange lay fallow. to ensure that this piece of history does not simply fall into disrepair, it is being brought back to life and made accessible to visitors.
